2021 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
Our path to 2025
Protecting the planet starts with responsible operations. Our Planet Goals help us reduce our environmental footprint as we grow our global impact.
2025 Planet Goals
Reduce indexed GHG Emissions by 25%
We’re on track to reducing GHG emissions by 25%. We successfully implemented emissions reductions projects and have a hopper of projects to ensure we meet our goal.
Reduce indexed Water Usage by 25%
We currently draw 99% of our water from non-stressed watersheds and are working to identify additional water initiatives that can help us reach our goals.
Reduce Indexed Solid Waste by 25%
Incorporating thermal drying will reduce 16% of our waste impact. Eliminating coal as our primary fuel source reduces our waste another 4.7%.
ZERO Waste to Landfill
We’ve reduced our waste-to-landfill by 70%. Relying on thermal drying and seeking new construction waste options will help us reach our zero waste-to-landfill goal by 2025.
Increase Renewable Energy Use to 100,000 MWh
We achieved 97% of our goal. Additional renewable energy credit agreements and seeking new opportunities for onsite renewables will get us across the finish line.
ZERO Environmental Violations
We’ve cut environmental violations by 80% and continue our progress through annual external audits of high-risk facilities and implementing risk assessments for our sites.

DISCOVER WHAT WE'RE DOING
Eliminating Coal with Cogeneration
To transition to a primarily coal free operation, we invested $25 million into cogeneration, combining steam and power. The project went online in December 2021, eliminating coal as a primary fuel source and reducing our overall costs, emissions and waste.Eliminating Coal with Cogeneration
In 2021, we constructed our first ever biosolids dryer to reduce the amount of waste transported on public roads to disposal. Our investment will reduce more than 8,000,000 lbs. of biosolid transport and disposal per year./en-us/sustainability/blogs/rethinking-waste
New Life for Textile Waste
Processing nearly 10,000 pounds per month, our new recycling system converts scrap back into fiber that can be used to remake the original product. This keeps disposal trucks off the road and reduces our use of virgin material./en-us/sustainability/blogs/new-life-for-textile-waste
