Inclusive environments
Knowledge Level: General awareness

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This seminar provides design considerations when specifying floor coverings for neuro-inclusive work environments. The presentation starts by explaining what neurodiversity means and the challenges and opportunities neurodivergent employees present for the workplace. It goes on to review the legislation relating to neuro-inclusive design and key sensitivities that architects and designers need to be aware of when designing and specifying floor coverings for a neurodivergent workforce. With example installations, the seminar illustrates how floor coverings can best support the design of neuro-inclusive workspaces.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. What neurodiversity means and why it matters for designing workplaces.
2. The relevant standards and legislation relating to the design of neuro-inclusive interiors.
3. The factors that should be considered when specifying floor covering products for a neurodiverse workforce.
4. How the floor plane can best be used as part of a neuro-inclusive interior.
5. How thoughtful design can improve the comfort, focus and efficiency of neurodivergent employees.

THE WELLv2 BUILDING STANDARD AND HOW FLOOR COVERING IMPACTS HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

RIBA Core Curriculum: Design, construction and technology, health, safety and well-being
Knowledge Level: General awareness

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Health and well-being are becoming an increasingly important consideration for architects when designing new spaces. This seminar explores this theme and the significant role that the WELL Building Standard is playing in progressing health and well-being for the built environment. Delegates will learn about the recent Version 2 enhancements of the Standard and about the impact floor coverings can have for projects aiming to achieve the WELL v2 Standard.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Discuss the key reasons for designing spaces with a primary focus on human health and well-being.
2. Explore the WELL Building Standard and learn about the key features and ways to certify your next project.
3. Learn how the WELL Living Lab is contributing to future WELL Building Standard features.
4. Demonstrate ways floor coverings can contribute to the WELL Building Standard and to designing spaces with a focus on human health and well‑being.

SHOWROOM TOUR: A JOURNEY TO WELL PLATINUM CERTIFICATION

RIBA Core Curriculum: Design, construction and technology
Knowledge Level: Detailed knowledge

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This CPD reviews the criteria required for achieving the International Well Building Institute’s WELL Building Standard and presents Milliken’s journey to achieving Platinum Certification for its London Showroom space. This CPD includes three distinct learning sections:
• An overview of the WELL Building Standard’s requirements and processes for achieving Certification
• A review of the challenges and actions that the Milliken team faced in aiming to achieve the highest level of the standard
• A tour of the Showroom highlighting all the elements of the space that needed to be addressed in order to achieve Platinum Certification.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

To develop an understanding of:

1. The International Well Building Institute’s (IWBI) process for getting a building or space WELL Building certified.
2. The criteria required for achieving the highest level of WELL Building Certification.
3. The typical challenges faced in aiming to achieve Platinum Certification and how they can be overcome.
4. How you can take these learnings and replicate into your own WELL Building certification project.
