Moisture Barrier Fabrics | Assure™
A moisture barrier is the middle layer in turnout gear, protecting against heat, water, and chemicals. Milliken Assure™ is the first non-PFAS, non-halogenated FR moisture barrier, setting a new standard for protection and breathability. Certified to NFPA 1971-2018 and 1970-2025 (including the optional Total Fluorine Requirement), it ensures firefighter safety without compromising performance.
Thermal Liner Fabrics | Equinox™
A thermal liner in turnout gear is the layer closest to the skin, providing most of the thermal protection.𠊎quinox™ features three layers of lightweight aramid-blended spunlace for superior wicking and protection without added weight. Its slick, low-friction facecloth allows quick donning and doffing, while its safe, flexible design keeps firefighters lighter and drier—even after the job is done.

A New Era in Firefighter Safety Begins in East Providence
East Providence Fire Department set out to protect its firefighters with gear free from fluorinated chemistries and found the perfect partners in Fire-Dex and Milliken. Together, we delivered 170 PFAS-free sets of turnout gear built with Milliken Assure™: a high-performance, non-halogenated FR moisture barrier engineered for the future of fire safety. In doing so, East Providence became one of the first departments in the nation to fully transition to non-PFAS protection.
Fire Department Coffee Collab
Luke Schneider, a retired firefighter/paramedic, and U.S. Navy veteran, founded Fire Dept. Coffee (FDC) in 2016. He teamed up with Jason Patton — still a full-time firefighter and now VP for Fire Department Coffee. Milliken's Fire Service team got together with FDC because we thought it would be great to work together. What we didn't expect was to use a diesel flamethrower on a sheet of TECGEN71 and post it on the Internet.
